Human Factors

What is human factors?

The area of human factors spans a range of theoretical disciplines and it is argued that it is not a pure science and should not be seen as  a discipline in itself. In broad terms it deals with how people operate and interact within an environment and can be from the decision making process through to appropriate placement of safety gauges that provide people with visual cues in a real life context.

What is dynamic risk assessment?

Dynamic Risk Assessment refers to the mental processing and perception of risk that occurs while decision makers actually deal with unfolding tasks.

Dynamic Risk Assessments are performed "on the run" and involve the psychology of how people perform on the ground when faced with challenging and changing situations.

Where can training be applied?

Training will provide operators with the skills necessary to move from documented risk assessments to changing environments and include:

  • Time pressured situations
  • Handling of complex or ambiguous information
  • High risk situations for the operator and others
  • Dynamic and rapidly changeable work environments
  • In emergency response and management
